Trivia facts:

  • Howell was named for Richard Howell, who served as the third governor of New Jersey from 1794 to 1801.
  • Some scenes from the 2005 Tom Cruise movie War of the Worlds was filmed in Howell. In fact, a neighborhood called “Ardena Acres” was created as a movie set. It’s still standing at Universal Studios Hollywood!
  • Howell completely surrounds the town of Farmingdale, which makes it part of 21 pairs of “doughnut towns” in New Jersey — that’s when one municipality completely surrounds another.

  • Interstate 195

  • Route 33
  • Route 34

Bus transportation from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan via the 131, 135 and 139 bus routes.

Bus service is available from Route 9 to the Financial District in Lower Manhattan via the Academy Bus Line.
